Get out of here! Go! Run! You Freak!

Found in the archives and oddly prescient: An early essay by Maddie Leach in which she was beginning to explore 'monstrousness' and public sculpture. Delivered at the Art & Industry Forum in Christchurch, New Zealand, 29 September 2000 in relation to the theme Sculpture.

Traversing a range of references that include Tim Burton's 1990 film Edward Scissorhands, Richard Serra's Tilted Arc, and a hilarious suite of ill-fated artworks in New Zealand, Maddie detourns Duchamp's idea that artworks lose their 'immanence' to suggest "Sculpture, if we are willing, can reveal itself slowly and unhurriedly and can be a fine reward for revisiting that which we may have thought dead."
